TMS Entertainment goes for (Koike) gold
TMS Entertainment are selling a golden Koike Lupin statue in celebration of the two new film releases, Zenigata and the Two Lupin’s and Immortal Bloodline.
The statue is 40mm in size, is made up of 9g of “pure gold”, and is priced at 550,000 yen, so nearly $4,000. Only 100 are being made, and each is being hand crafted in Japan by a single individual (Auric Goldfinger himself?!)
There are also gold card versions of visuals from the new films, which are 300,000 yen ($2,000~) for the whole set, or 60,000 yen ($400~) each. If you do purchase the complete set of all five designs, you will receive an acrylic frame that can be used to display cards as a bonus.
Fitting, but frankly, insane. Who has the cash to drop on one of these? I think no matter the Lupin fan, it would have been nicer to get a figurine based on the Lupin the IIIRD spin-off series that is more obtainable to fans. I guess there are clear files, tote bags, paper fans, and acrylic standees available,, if that is your sort of thing. While this golden merchandise looks neat, this sort of thing, to me, feels like it is done for marketing and to grab headlines ahead of anything else, which is a shame.
And here I am writing a headline about it. Oh well!
