New "Immortal Bloodline" trailer, information released
TMS Entertainment Japan have updated their website for the upcoming theatrical film, Lupin the IIIRD: The Movie ~ Immortal Bloodline with a heap of new information, alongside a new trailer.
The film, which is directed by Takeshi Koike, is technically the sixth work in the Lupin the IIIRD spin-off series, after The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Jigen’s Gravestone, Goemon’s Bloodspray, Fujiko’s Lie, and the upcoming ONA, Zenigata and the Two Lupin’s. Unlike previous works, Immortal Bloodline is the first full length theatrical film to hit cinemas in Japan, and the first 2D animated Lupin work to do so since the 1996 released Dead or Alive.
Included on the updated website is a better look at the cast and story of Immortal Bloodline, which includes this synopsis (translated) below!
Lupin III and his friends head to the Bermuda Sea in search of a mysterious island that doesn't exist on the world map. Their goal is to uncover the identity of the mastermind who has been sending assassins to them, and the enormous treasure hidden there. However, the moment they approach the island, their plane is shot down by a sniper, and the group makes an emergency landing on the “island of the dead”.
The scene that spreads before them is like the end of the world, with mountains of decaying weapons and nuclear missiles piled up, and "garbage people" who were once used as weapons, and then discarded wandering around. The island is covered in fog and filled with a poison that will bring death within 24 hours, and there is no escape.
The ruler of the island, Muom, claims immortality and tries to rule the world by selecting and eliminating. Faced with an "immortal enemy" that is invulnerable to guns and swords, Lupin challenges him to a battle of wits, risking his past, his pride, and his pride as a thief.
Will Lupin be able to steal everything within 24 hours and escape the island alive?
As per usual, the Japanese voice cast for the film contains the familiar faces of Kanichi Kurita (Lupin III), Akio Otsuka (Jigen Daisuke), Daisuke Namikawa (Ishikawa Goemon), Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko Mine), and Koichi Yamadera (Inspector Zenigata).
In addition, Aoi Morikawa joins the crew as Salifa, a young girl who speaks for the villain of the film - who while having an innocent exterior, is clearly repressing some deeper, mixed emotions. Then, we have Kataoka Ainosuke VI, who is starring in the role of the grotesque Muom; a mysterious ruler who has built the island and manages its fearsome inhabitants. You may remember Ainosuke from the recent Lupin III kabuki stage play, which was a big hit in Japan last year, and is about to get its second run. It’s fantastic to see him joining an official animated work from the series - and as a new villain to boot!
While we can’t post them all here, the official website includes short interviews with each of the seven main cast members - check it out if you’re interested in reading more!
The new trailer (posted below) also showcases the films theme song, Bz’s The IIIRD EYE by musicians Takahiro Matsumoto and Hiroshi Inaba. The pair have mentioned in an interview on the website that they are thrilled to be involved in the Lupin the IIIRD spin-off franchise, and have tried to incroperate a "jazzy" feel into their song, along with their usual rock flavour. Both are fans of the franchise, and hope their new work can do it justice.
As with the rest of the Lupin the IIIRD series, it appears that the remainder of the OST has been composed by James Shimoji - whose distinct style matches this harder, edgier, and darker side of the Lupin series perfectly.
Lupin the IIIRD: The Movie ~ Immortal Bloodline launches in cinemas across Japan from the 27th of June 2025, and its prequel short film, Zenigata and the Two Lupin’s, will become available online a few days prior, from June the 20th 2025 in Japan.
While no information is currently available about an English language localisation of both films, it is likely to come after the release in Japan - we just do not know how soon after. Stay tuned for more details, and for now, enjoy the new trailer!
