Lupin III to get new one-shot comic in France!

Good news, French fans of Lupin III! The series will be getting a new one-shot illustrated comic release in France later this year, courtesy of publisher Kana.

The new comic, titled La Merveille (The Wonder), is part of Kana’s “classics” range. The publisher has previously released similar comics based around other classic Japanese animated works, including Mazinger-Z and Captain Harlock, both of which were popular on television in France during the 1980s and 1990s. This new Lupin tale is written by Kid Toussaint, a Belgian comic author, and is illustrated by the Spanish artist Munuera (Jose Luis), better known for his run with writer Jean-David Morvan on Spirou & Fantasio.

Going by the cover artwork, the comic looks to honour the original manga by Monkey Punch, featuring a red-jacket wearing Lupin III. Zenigata and Jigen are also both featured on the cover alongside Lupin himself.

Lupin III previously had troubled localisation in France, due to the Maurice LeBlanc estate owning the rights to the original character within the country. As a result, copyright laws had a slightly different effect on localised versions of series like Part 2, which originally launched in France under the title of Edgar, le détective cambrioleur. In recent years, the copyright has lapsed and the Lupin character is now in public domain, meaning Lupin III can finally release within France as Lupin III!

You can pre-order the comic once it becomes available via the Kana website by clicking here. The comic is currently scheduled for release later in 2026. A huge thanks to our friend Guillaume Babey for breaking the news and detailing the release of this one - appreciate it, bud!
