Jun Hashimoto passes away, aged 86
The lyricist of the theme song to 1979s The Castle of Cagliostro, Jun Hashimoto, has passed away in hospital on the 21st of May 2026. His family held a private funeral shortly after. He was 86 years old.
Aside from working with Yuji Ohno on Fire Treasure, he also worked on the theme song, Aoi Chikyū, of popular television anime Galaxy Express 999. Hashimoto, whose real name was Junsuke Yoda, was active outside of scoring television and anime, having worked on successful hits for the likes of Ayumi Ishida, and Jackey Yoshikawa & His Blue Comets.
To lose both he and Yuji Ohno in the same month is devastating. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family. May his work continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.
