The animated television series Lupin III: Part 6 is returning to Italy later this year on DVD and Blu-ray!
The show, which first aired on NTV in Japan and on streaming websites across the globe during 2021, will release as part of a four-disc DVD and four-disc Blu-ray set. According to the Amazon listing for each set, both versions will include Italian and Japanese language dubbing, with Italian subtitles.
Part 6 is the latest mainline Lupin series, and consists of twenty-four episodes of capers. A special “episode zero”, which is set between the events of Part 5 and Part 6, acts as a heart-felt send-off to veteran voice actor, Kiyoshi Kobayashi. While experimental with its storytelling, I personally felt that Part 6 can be hit and miss, with some episodes improving both its narrative and its quality of animation, when compared to the last. While it barely manages to stick its landing, there are some interesting character arcs, exploring the Lupin gang in new ways - an impressive feat, over fifty years on since their inception. I believe that it is still worth a watch - especially if you are a fan of classic Japanese crime fiction, which features heavily in the one-shot episodes during the shows first cour.
The DVD version currently retails at a slightly cheaper €50, with the Blu-ray set at €60. Both will drop on the 20th of September, 2023.

La serie televisiva animata Lupin III: Parte 6 - Una storia senza fine tornerà in Italia quest'anno in DVD e Blu-ray!
La serie, andata in onda per la prima volta su NTV in Giappone e sui siti web di streaming di tutto il mondo nel 2021, uscirà in un cofanetto di quattro dischi in DVD e quattro dischi in Blu-ray. Secondo l'annuncio su Amazon di ciascun set, entrambe le versioni includeranno il doppiaggio in italiano e giapponese, con sottotitoli in italiano.
La Parte 6 è l'ultima serie principale di Lupin e consiste in ventiquattro episodi di avventure. Uno speciale "episodio zero", ambientato tra gli eventi della Parte 5 e della Parte 6, funge da sentito commiato per il veterano doppiatore Kiyoshi Kobayashi. Pur essendo sperimentale nella sua narrazione, personalmente ho ritenuto che la Parte 6 possa essere un po' discontinua, con alcuni episodi che migliorano sia la narrazione che la qualità dell'animazione, se confrontati con gli ultimi. Sebbene riesca a malapena ad atterrare, ci sono alcuni archi di personaggi interessanti, che esplorano la banda di Lupin in modi nuovi - un'impresa impressionante, a più di cinquant'anni dalla loro nascita. Credo che valga comunque la pena di guardarlo, soprattutto se si è fan della classica narrativa poliziesca giapponese, che è molto presente negli episodi one-shot del primo ciclo della serie.
La versione in DVD ha un prezzo leggermente inferiore, 50 euro, mentre il Blu-ray costa 60 euro. Entrambi usciranno il 20 settembre 2023.
